PROCESS CONTROL

The science for maintaining a parameter at set value, despite disturbances.

A control system consists of:

  • - sensors
  • - controllers
  • - response mechanism

  • The sensors read a process parameter, and forward their reading to the response mechanism. The mechanism issues a command to a controller that changes the same or other parameter in the process. The change should be designed to correct the reading of the sensor to preset value.

Control systems are evaluated by how quickly and efficiently they counter a disturbance from the preset value
