The innovative chemist has the options:

  • 1. Turn over the bench-process
  • 2. Collaborate with the chemical engineer

  • The first option is easier on the chemist, but often results in a suboptimal design owing to the typical interests of the design engineer. The latter requires effort on the part of the chemist but results in a better design, and learning benefits for the chemist. Chemists opting for collaboration gradually learn the craft of chemical engineering, and become better collaborators, even complete designers, on their own.

    Collaboration may proceed along the D&G paradigm.
